It would be dangerous, I think, to say liberatianism and anarchism are synonymous because they have very different histories and realities.
Anarchism emerged out of class struggle and understanding government to be unnecessary to personal well being whilst libertarianism is an economic opposition to government interference. Yes, I know wikipedia says libertarianism encompasses anarcho-socialism/syndicalism but in reality libertarianism refers almost exclusively to so-called “anarcho-capitalism”.
Such droll attention to semantics is, unfortunately, a necessary part of understanding.
