Oil Wars Ad Nauseum
Britain’s new year resolution: intervene in Somalia
Yep, here we go again. Just as Libya and Iraq are winding up, the Government has suddenly discovered that another country needs “intervention”.
Mr Cameron is concerned about tourists and aid workers from the UK being attacked and kidnapped, the rise of piracy and the potential for the East African country to become a place of extremist indoctrination for increasing numbers of young Muslims from the UK.
Oh right.
As this link highlights, Somalia has the potential for huge oil reserves. Thus far very little has been proven for the country as a whole due to oil explorers pulling out before completing exploration because of the social environment in the 1980s, but Africa Oil Corp estimates approximately two billion barrels of oil for the less chaotic Puntland region alone.
Kevin Heath discusses how governments and the media manufacture consent:
There’s a set pattern that the government goes through in preparing us for oil wars whether that’s in Iraq, Afghanistan or Libya. That same process now appears to be happening in regards to Somalia.
First the government determines which side is the best side to back where cheap oil is concerned – the rebels in Libya for example or the removal of a government such as the Taliban in Afghanistan. Then the Government and BBC start the propaganda campaign to prepare us for war. And so the process for Somalia starts.
Expect to see much more about the evils in Somalia over the next year, I guess.
